Add a new 120 volt outlet

Outlets (known as 120 volt receptacles) are easily added in most cases, utilizing wiring which is adjacent to the desired outlet location… This means there is an existing outlet or switch within a few feet and you want to add one more… Notice the old outlet at the left is an old-style two-prong ungrounded outlet, but most likely it still has a ground wire inside, so it can be used to feed a new three-prong outlet!

If you are going to use the outlet for some special purpose such as an appliance, portable heater, etc… you will need a dedicated circuit added for this outlet.

New 120v/15a outlet with wiring connected to adjacent circuit: avg cost $125 (dependent upon distance and type of wall).

New 120v/15a 0utlet with dedicated circuit (connected to panel) for an appliance: avg cost $425 (dependent upon distance to panel).
