These fixtures require special bulbs and must be serviced by licensed experienced electricians. The voltages present in HID fixtures can exceed 400 volts AC and can be extremely dangerous. Operating temperatures for HID bulbs are also very high. Never touch a fixture or bulb until you’ve insured it is off and has had ample time to cool (20 - 30 minutes)… If a new bulb (of the correct wattage and type) has been installed and the fixture doesn’t light or goes out after a short period of time, you need a ballast. If you’re not sure which bulb, don’t experiment! Wrong bulbs in HID lights can be dangerous… Call your electrician.
